Iron product choice and dose calculation guide for adults

The Iron product choice and dose calculation guide for adults has been developed to assist clinicians determine the appropriate formulation and dosage of iron replacement therapy for adult patients. The guide gives practical advice on the choice and route of administration for replacement iron products and how to calculate the correct dose.

The appendixes contain tables comparing Intravenous iron preparations, oral preparations for treatment of iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) in Australia and further information resources. The guide was developed by the Transfusion Practice and Education Team (the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood (Lifeblood)) . It was then reviewed by the Patient Blood Management Steering Committee before being available for a six-week public consultation period.
